Kommos beach

Kommos Beach is a secluded, enchanting beach with crystal blue waters and is surrounded by an archaeologically protected zone, preserving its natural beauty and tranquility. In the past, it was a favorite destination for hippies, and the northern part of the beach remains popular with nudists to this day. At the same time, the beach also has an organized section, with comfortable umbrellas, sun loungers and a beach bar to enjoy your day in the sun. Do not miss the opportunity to admire the beautiful white sand lilies, which bloom on the sand dunes of the area towards the end of summer. From the sea, opposite the archaeological site of Kommos, stands the rock of Volakas, an impressive geological formation. According to mythology, the rock was created when the angry cyclops Polyphemus threw the ship of the Argonaut Odysseus, when he and his companions tried to escape from his cave. When visiting Kommos Beach, be careful as the beach is one of the most important breeding grounds for the loggerhead turtle. During the summer months, the turtles choose this area to lay their eggs, making the beach particularly important for the protection of marine life.
